Est. 1910

Northcliffe Golfing Society (1910)

Walton Heath is without doubt one of the country’s premier golf courses and is the next fixture on Monday,  September 4 for £95.

Guest will be welcome at the actual cost of the day of £165. Associate members, former full Society members who have left the company will pay £125.

There will be two rounds of golf, singles in the morning on the Old Course in 4xBalls for the “President’s Trophy” and then, after a carvery lunch, drawn greensomes in the afternoon on the New Course for the “Lady Rothermere Trophy” .

It may be called the New Course but was first opened in 1907 and you could be forgiven into thinking the neighbouring Old Course, 1904, might be the better of the two famous courses, but it is almost impossible to select the best.

The day starts with coffee and bacon roles from 7 a.m. with 18-holes stableford on the Old Course from 7.45 a.m. After a 2-course carvery lunch it’s drawn greensomes on the New Course from 2.25 p.m. followed by tea with the prize giving from 6.30 p.m. Play will be from “green” tee boxes with 8-minute intervals both morning and afternoon.

It is important to keep up with the players in front so if you cannot score, please pick up to avoid slow play. Take 3-minutes searching with another player for any lost ball and then drop a ball if lost. To avoid having to go back to where you played any “lost ball” the Society rule is to drop a ball under a one-shot penalty at the nearest point of relief where you believe your “lost ball” landed and this includes dropping in a clear spot in the heather.

Club players with WHS handicaps should use the slope chart. Players without a WHS handicap, play off their Society handicap without any slope. Playing handicaps must he entered on the scorecard and signed by both the player and a playing partner. Collect a scorecard either when signing in or from the Pro Shop.

Last year’s  winner of the “President’s Trophy”, was Ian McGowan with 39pts.  The afternoon competition will be for the “Lady Rothermere Trophy”.

There will be the fund raising “Back the Winner” for the morning competition at £5 each pick and entries must be emailed to gpburden@ntlworld.com before play starts.

The “Ball Sweep” and “2’s” competition are both included in the cost of the day so make sure you collect your ticket when signing in.

Payments including Back the Winner entries must be paid BEFORE play into the Society’s bank account, Lloyds Bank, Sort code 30-92-45, Account no. 01571241

Close up after Walton Heath will be the annual match against North Foreland Golf Club, Sunday, September 10,  followed the next day with our first visit to Knole Park which is on the way back towards London on Monday, Sept 11.

If you want to play in the North Foreland annual match against the Club, which is one round followed by a carvery dinner at a cost of £35, then email me whether or not you are playing at Knole Park.
