It doesn’t get much better than a fixture at Moor Park Golf Club in the warm May sunshine, especially if you get the chance to play the championship High Course.
With its imposing Club House and challenging course that beats even the most prestigious of golf courses, Moor Park has always been a long-time favourite over the years for the Society.
Walton Heath had to postpone the Society’s May fixture because the professionals playing in the US Open Qualifier asked for an extra day of practice, Moor Park came to the rescue and found space for our late booking.
The Championship course was in great condition and proved to be a tough challenge for all, though winner of the Viscountess Rothermere Trophy, Clive Heard showed it was perfect for his game. His 38pts was well clear of runner-up Ian McIlgorm’s 33pts who beat Will Flint on count back with Steve Sharp in 4th with 32pts. Clive was cut two shots to 8 handicap and Ian one shot to 12.
Will was the only winner of the “2’s” competition collecting £20 with £10 towards the funds and Clive was the only person wise enough to select himself in the “Back the Winner” competition and won £40 with £10 into the funds.
There were 2 bottles of champagne to win in the Nearest the Pin competitions with Will Flint on the 3rd hole and Lee Terry on the 18th taking home the Bubbly.
Because of the success of the day, great food, a stunning clubhouse and with the back-up of the equally challenging West Course to complement the High Course, the Society will be booking next year and making Moor Park a regular fixture.
