The 28th annual clash between NGS and North Foreland took place on the Kent coast at Broadstairs on Sunday 15th September.
As ever, the society received a warm welcome from North Foreland Golf Club whose enthralling history with the Harmsworth family and dmg media continues.
The land which is now occupied by holes 10-18 and the much-praised short course were previously owned by Daily Mail founder Lord Northcliffe
The Northcliffe Society were hosted by Club Captain Paul Jefcoate and Lady Captain Dinny Darby on a day of exceptional weather.
After a light lunch, ten four-ball balls teed off on the chalk downland course, with its stunning clifftop panoramic views and historic charm.
NGS loaned two players to North Foreland and Lee Terry and his guest, Luke Cunningham, were snapped up by the opposition.
Despite tightly fought matches, Northcliffe lost 4.5 – 5.5 with Lee and Luke securing the winning point for North Foreland, meaning the running match score over the 28 years stands at 17 – 11 in favour of North Foreland.

PRINCES GOLF CLUB
The following day twelve NGS players competed for the prestigious Northcliffe Cup at Princes Golf Club in Sandwich, Kent.
With its classic seaside layout and frequently ranked in the Top 10 Golf Courses in Southeast England, Princes did not disappoint as the sunshine saturated the sandy dunes.
dmg media’s Director of Comms Hayley Barlow won with 32 points, narrowly beating Keith Cottington into 2nd place on count-back, with Joe Marvell coming third on 30 points.
Hayley also won nearest the pin on the front nine while guest Terri Wills secured the back nine nearest the pin prize.
Congratulations to Hayley on securing her first NGS victory and winning the 2024 Northcliffe Cup.
This double-header fixture once again proved to be a definite highlight of the NGS calendar.
With next year’s North Foreland match confirmed for Sunday 14th September and Princes society day on Monday 15th September, we hope to see more of you on this fun trip in 2025.
