West Hill on Monday, October 28, for the all-inclusive price of £55, is our final golf day before the Christmas Scramble at The Berkshire, Monday, November 18

It is also the last chance to move up the “Order of Merit” for the play-off to decide the “Golfer of the Year”.

Like so many of the great golf courses played during the year, West Hill is exceptional.

Their website describes the course as one of Surrey’s oldest gems. Consistently featured in the top 100 golf course listings, the stunning heathland course, designed in 1907, is lined with towering Scots pines.

The brook of Brookwood meanders its way through the course, coming into play on six different holes so strategic play is required from every tee, making the course play considerably longer than its 6,380 yards.

The greens also have some of the most challenging natural undulations you could ever play and contribute to this wonderful test of golf.

If this is not enough to tempt you, consider the £55 cost of playing. This includes bacon roll, tea or coffee before play, a 3-course carvery lunch, prizes, the “2’s” competition, Ball Sweep and Champagne for the “Nearest the Pin” competition.

For an extra £5 a time, payable on the day, you can enter the “Back the Winner” competition with the chance of hitting the jackpot if you select the right person to win the main trophy!

Now is also the time to start planning your team for the Christmas Scramble at The Berkshire, on Monday, November 18. Details below and you send your entry with the reference “Scramble” via the West Hill link.

CHRISTMAS SCRAMBLE
The Christmas Scramble at The Berkshire, cost £75, will end our fantastic year of golf so start thinking of your team and if you do not have anyone to play with, just enter and you will be matched with a team of like-minded golfers!
Teams should have a suitable name and must provide a team prize to be auctioned for Society funds.

The £75 cost of the day, a modest increase from previous years, is subsidised from our Funds because of the fund raising that is done during the year and really is an exceptional price.

For Associate members, former staff working elsewhere but not for a direct competitor to the newspaper group the price is £85.

Unfortunately, because the event is so popular, guests cannot be invited.

The price includes a bacon or sausage roll to start the day, the traditional Christmas lunch (wine not included), great prizes for the top six teams plus Champagne for “Nearest the Pin” on all the six Par 3 holes.

Send your entry as above via the contact details for the West Hill event.

TO HELP SPEED UP PLAY AS SUGGESTED BY R & A
Drop within one club length, with a  TWO shot penalty, if your ball is lost in the rough.

Drop the ball from Knee High otherwise it is a penalty!

When putting, the flag can remain in the hole or taken out.

Par 3 holes are Call UP holes if other players are waiting on the tee.

Hitting a tee shot if the person with the honour is delayed in being ready to play.

Hitting a shot before helping someone to look for a lost ball.

Putting out even if it means standing close to someone else’s ball.

Hitting a shot if a person who has just played from a greenside bunker is still farthest from the hole but is delayed due to raking the bunker.

When a player’s ball has gone over the back of a green, any player closer to the hole but chipping from the front of the green should play while the other player is walking to their ball and assessing their shot.

Marking scores upon immediate arrival at the next tee, except that the first player to tee off marks their card immediately after teeing off.
