Welcome to another great year with the Northcliffe and what a wonderful way to get our covid free golf fixtures under way with a day at the championship course at THE GROVE.

The moment you drive into the golf complex you realise what a golfing treat there is in store. The staff are on hand to unload your clubs, there is free use of the impressive practice range, a free course planner, bag tag, tees, pencils and ball markers handed out before play on the course that has hosted major tournaments including the British Masters.

Tiger Woods set an amazing record of consecutive eagles on a Par 5 during the tournament – watch out for the plaque on the fairway where Tiger’s drive ends on the way to his amazing achievement.

Included in your cost of the day, there is a Bacon or Sausage roll before play with lunch at the end of the round followed by the prize-giving.

The Grove also sees the start of the annual free to enter “Order of Merit” competition that is won by the player who has the best 3 finishing positions during the year.

The draw also takes place for the Match Play knock-out competition, again free to enter, with matches played either at your local course or at our golf fixtures. If you want to enter but cannot play at The Grove, you can still enter by emailing me.

The full list of our fixtures, dates and details are on this website, but just to whet the appetite these are our confirmed dates for the diary.

After The Grove there is Walton Heath on Monday, June 20; The Berkshire Monday, July 11; Northwood Monday August 15; North Foreland match against the Club, Sunday, Sept 11 followed the following day on the Monday, instead of Royal Cinque Ports, we stop off on the way home at Knole Park, Monday Sept 12. Then there is Tandridge, Mon Sept 26 with West Hill on TUES, Oct 25 and this ends the “Order of Merit” with the player who tops the list winning our “Golfer of the Year” Trophy.

The year of playing these brilliant courses finishes with the traditional end of year “Christmas Scramble” when the “Golfer of the Year trophy” is presented as well as the prize to the winner of this year’s “Match Play” knock-out competition.

Highlight of the year though must be the Inter-company tournament in May at Praia del Rey, Portugal, with play at Royal Obidos, Praia del Rey and West Cliffs and we are again joined for the weekend by the Northcliffe Tennis Society.

Full staff members pay £75 for The Grove and this is heavily subsidised from the Society’s Funds. Associate members who are former full time staff now working elsewhere, but not with a direct rival company, will pay £85 and guests, if numbers permit, £95.

The Clubhouse opens early at 7.15 a.m. so plenty of time for the bacon or sausage roll with tea or coffee all included. Then out to the practice area to warm up before starting your game from the Gold Tees. It’s an 18 holes stableford singles competition off full handicap for the Burton Challenge Cup. The holder is Society Captain Nick Stevens who won with 38pts playing off a 3 handicap and he also won the Champagne for “Nearest the Pin” on the 13th.

Collect your ball sweep ticket when you sign in and have a go at picking out who will win this year’s trophy in the “Back the Winner” fund raising competition at £5 a pick before going out to play.

There will be a 2-Tee start, the 1st and 10th which will speed up the round with the prize-giving taking place after lunch. The list of playing partners and tee-times will be circulated before the day.
