It’s been another long wait to the start of the golfing season but we can now look forward to a great year of playing some of the best courses in the country.

We have managed to book a full day at Tandridge for our first fixture in place of this year’s annual Inter-Company competition in Portugal, postponed yet again to May next year because of covid-19.

Tandridge is widely regarded as the jewel in the crown of Surrey courses and demand for places will be high so make sure you confirm your place early.

The price for full members is £95 which is subsidized from Society funds by £35 for the 2-rounds, bacon rolls to start the day, a full carvery lunch with home-made desserts and sandwiches and chips at the end of play. The cost for Associate members is £110 and guests £130.

Members are reminded that to qualify for the subsidised payment they must have paid their increased annual subs of £50.  It is still not too late to add the £20 difference for anyone on the previous £30 annual subs and this can be added to Tandridge payments.

At the moment golf clubs are still in full lockdown and it is not until May 17 that everything  we have booked is likely to be able to fully go ahead.

Whatever is finally decided, full details of any restrictions will be circulated nearer the day.

The morning competition will be singles stableford off yellow tees using WHS handicaps for the “Tandridge Putter” which was presented to the Society by the Club many years ago.

Non golf Club members without a WHS handicap will play off Society handicaps.

After lunch there will be a 9 x hole Texas Scramble and those wanting to carry on playing the full 18 holes can do so.

If it helps, one scorecard with all player’s names and scores can be used though individual cards can also be kept.  Scorecards from the morning round should be handed in at lunchtime.

Make sure you put BOTH your WHS club handicap on the card that you sign AND the Club’s slope chart’s handicap rating.

There will be a “Back the Winner” Competition but all monies must be paid online by the evening before, either added to the cost of the day or separately.   I will circulate the names of all players in good time for you to make your “winning” selections.

Form guide:   Clive Heard, last September’s winner at Tandridge  scored 39pts and was cut one shot.

All payments must be paid direct to the Society’s Bank Account, there will be no cash payments on the day. The Society Bank details are:  Lloyds Bank, Sort code 30-92-45, Account no. 01571241

The annual Match Play knockout competition draw will take place after Tandridge so enter in good time. With covid causing such difficulty in booking courses, matches can be played at future fixtures, either in the same group or based on the best stableford points of the players in the morning round.

The Order of Merit will also start at Tandridge followed by Walton Heath; The Berkshire; Northwood; Royal Cinque Ports; Tandridge and West Hill.

Because of weather delays and the virus, the 2019 MATCH PLAY final has still to be played along with both the 2019 and 2020 ORDER OF MERIT play-offs. If agreed by those players involved they can also be played as part of future fixtures. (The 2020 Match Play competition was cancelled).

Any changes to the Club’s covid restrictions after May 17 will be circulated before the fixture.
