Royal Cinque Ports, Deal, is one of the best links courses in the country, with undulating fairways, amazing greens hidden among massive grass covered sand dunes and bunkers the likes of which are unique for this type of course. Check out their website for full details.

We are playing one round for the Northcliffe Cup with members paying £75 and guests £110. This includes coffee and bacon rolls on arrival, 18 holes on this amazing course and lunch.

As before at all this year’s fixtures, because of Covid-19 restrictions there can be no prize-giving, Nearest the Pin, 2’s or Ball Sweep but this is a small sacrifice to be able to play such a championship course.

It is such a memorable course to play, whether you struggle to cope with the amazing links lay-out or play well enough to tame the greens, it has to be one of the highlights of our year which is quite a recommendation when the quality of our other fixtures are considered.

There is no need for more details about the day, just go to their website to see what a golfing treat this will be.

Because of the popularity of playing the course with golfers from all over the word booking tee-times, confirmed numbers need to be given to the Club as soon as possible so do enter if you are planning to play.

Last year, new member Dan Schwarz came home a clear winner with 39pts and was cut 3-shots to 15 handicap, with Lisa Heywood in second place with 33 pts. Third was vice-Captain Barry Theobald with Ian McGowan fourth.

Trophy winners are normally cut two shots under the rules, but the Handicap Committee having reviewed the winning scorecard and standard scratch of the course, decided that Dan’s performance was worthy of a three-shot penalty.

Jayne Burden, whose shot on the tough Par 3 4th hole won her the Champagne for “Nearest the Pin” also scooped the “2’s” pot as the only player managing a “2” during the competition.
