The PGS proved to be too strong when it came to playing links golf on two brilliant courses in the annual match against the Northcliffe.

They set up a commanding overnight lead after the first round at Hunstanton, in Norfolk, so much so that despite a close finish on the second day at Brancaster, the Northcliffe were unable to gain enough wins to mount a serious challenge.

After the first round the PGS  were almost impossible to catch with a five-and-half to one-and-a-half lead and they held on with a 4-3 win in the second round to retain the Lord Northcliffe Challenge Cup.

Their win closes the overall winning gap between the two teams to 11-8 in favour of the Northcliffe with one match halved.

PGS match Captain, Paolo Minoli in his last year as their Society secretary, received the trophy from the Northcliffe match Captain Vyvyan Harmsworth.
